My favorite lunch spot in Destin is Dewey Destin Seafood on Calhoun Avenue. I try to go every time I am in the area. It looks like a shack with a pier, but has the best seafood in the area. Very informal atmosphere. You simply order inside, get your drink and either sit on the pier or in one of their screened areas. Hint: go for the open air pier. Beautiful fresh from just hours prior seafood of the day. What they catch is what you eat! Magnificent!
Looked around the internet for recommendations in Destin and Dewey Destin kept popping up. This place is so good. This one is located by a harbor where you can get a great view of the sunset for dinner. The tables by the docks fill quickly so you might need to get lucky or opt for the indoor seating. Service was fantastic and the line moved quickly despite being long. The person who took our order was very friendly and professional. Highly recommend getting their fried Triple Tail if it's available (catch of the day). The crunchy fried exterior mixed with the fresh pillowy texture of the fish was nothing short of spectacular. Their buffalo shrimp was amazing too. Best part, if you got room for dessert, there is an ice cream spot right next to Dewey. Don't miss out on this fresh seafood spot when you're in town!
My family eats at Dewey every time we're in Destin. Located on (and over) the water, the view is great. The fried food is some of the best in Destin. I recommend the fried scallops.
The view is fantastic, perfect for ocean front dining! Go around sunset but arrive early for a good table! Our waitress was great and we appreciated she brought the kids food first! We started off with the crap dip with ritz crackers - fantastic! We had to get more crackers to finish every last bit of the dip. Had some cocktails and ahi tuna; all in all I'd go here again when in town!
This was one of our favorite meals and locations while visiting Destin. The views were amazing and everyone enjoyed the fresh air and the ambiance of being on the peer. Three family members enjoyed the Snow Crab Legs and I enjoyed the Fried Triple Tail basket. There was only crab leg husks leftover when everyone was finished. Everything was prepared deliciously and the service was knowledgeable and quick. Just for information, our meal for four with tip was ~$200. Money well spent.
After reading the history about this place, we had to stop in. We were just driving through town so I wanted to make it count. We went to the sit down location and sat upstairs outside. It was fun to watch all the ships/boats and tikis go by. Our server was very attentive. We had a beer and Prosecco so you can't go wrong with those. He had gumbo and we shared the smoked tuna app. Both were very good! I saw someone recommend putting a couple of drops of their sauce (it's already on the table) on the tuna, so I did... excellent recommendation. For dinner I got the stuffed shrimp, hush puppies and red potatoes, delicious!! He had tuna and collard greens, he actually liked the collard greens better than the tuna... it was a little dry for him. Overall, I would recommend the place.
We travel to Destin several times a year and always make at least one trip to Dewey's. Their shrimp is lightly breaded and HUGE! It's my mom's favorite food in the area. She and my dad split the colossal shrimp while I had the regular shrimp basket and my son had the grilled fish sandwich. It is counter style ordering and the line can get long, but the staff I always friendly and helpful when ordering. The restaurant sits on the bay with picnic style seating and amazing water views. My son said the fish sandwich is just ok. The marinade is some form of teriyaki and he would have preferred a blackened option which they did not have. My dad also got a bowl of gumbo which was really good, but it was so spicy that we could not finish it.
Looking for delicious food and not have to be all fancy and people will not judge? Well, this is your best kept secret place to go and leave happy as a clam. Well, maybe clams are not happy that you want to eat them but you will leave with a smile on your face! That is a fact jack! K was introduced to this restaurant a few years ago and I wanted to go back. When you first drive in, you might second guess yourself and wonder "where am I going?" Fear not! You are going into paradise! As you walk into the peer the restroom are around the corner and they have an outside sink you know you are going to get messy!) Make the line, order the food, grab your drink, go to your table and wait for the goods to be delivered. I had the following: - Grouper sandwich. - Crab cakes . -Fried shrimp with fries . Everything was really delicious, not over cooked, lightly breaded and just juicy. The grouper was very well prepared and the crab cakes? Well, let's just say there was nothing left. If you are in the area and want some local Florida staple without getting all fancied up? This is your jam!
We've been coming here for many years, it's one of our favorite spots. We come to the one **on the bay.** The ambiance is awesome, beyond relaxed, if you're not in shorts and t-shirt and flip flops, you're over dressed. It's a glorified shack on the beach, ok, maybe not even glorified. As you sit, you'll watch over the clear water, boats on the sand bar way out, and feel the gentle ocean breeze, it's magical. Check out the photos I attached. Saw a couple dolphins today and a bunch of really cool sea birds. It's not simple to find, but not hard, and definitely worth finding! The food has always been great! Today it was good. I got the Mate's Platter which comes with fried scallops, shrimp, fish, hush puppies, fries and coleslaw. I was talked into a fish called triple-tail over the traditional mahi mahi for an up charge, I should have stuck with the original. The fish was good, but not as good as mahi. It was a ton of food and very good. We also got a crab cake sandwich and fries. Always good. They have a ton of seafood choices, amazing menu options really! They have an ice cream shack / store / cafe that's a shack also. Right on site. You can expect to pay $15-$30 per person including a nice beer or soda. They have a decent canned / bottled beer selection too. When you go, you'll 100% think you're going down the wrong "street", which is a driveway, go a few hundred more feet, you'll get there! And you'll be happy you did!
